REVolting - Sex Scandal Rocks Famed Megachurch
As you read this sad tale of sexual misconduct by an 80 year old pastor, you’ll see a pattern of deceit, lies, sexual infidelity, and financial opportunism. Money, sex, and power. (Satan is not creative…he uses these weapons over and over and over…) That Earl Paulk was permitted to have any role in this church following revelations of previous sexual misconduct, is an abomination. Now, it’s revealed that he slept with his brother’s wife and fathered a child by her. Once again, the name of Christ is tarnished by pastoral malfeasance. This type of behavior screams for condemnation, but is predictably (as you’ll read in the article) met with rationalization and blame-shifting. Oh Lord, “deliver us from evil.”
MHR...this blog and the last, on face value, have little to do with each other. But since you posted this blog, I've been thinking "what must the world think of us?". We live in a digital age, where every bit of information is transmitted immediately. And, given the media's propensity to print sensational, negative "news"...the challenge to integrity is even more commanding for Chrisitans (as if the desire of God isn't motivation enough!). The connection between this blog and the previous blog illustrating the tremendous suffering in Bangladesh is this...as Christians we are called to good works...the heart of God has compassion for the suffering, and He calls us to action, as well as prayer. At this time, Chrisitans seem to be know by what we are against. If only we were known by our good works...Of course, we are saved by grace...but it's so easy to get comfortable and complacent...and forgethat "we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." The world is watching. Actions speak louder than words...and the love of God demonstrated through His followers to the suffering, I believe, will be the only thing that will speak positively to this cynical world.
