REVrant 35.2 - Spitzer's Prostitute: "I love who I am"

Spitzer's escort: 'I love who I am' - CNN.com

At this link, you can read (if you’ve not already heard enough…) an article and see a photo of the prostitute with whom Eliot Spitzer committed adultery.  I’m not posting her photo because of the message her eyes seem to be sending in it!  There is currently a media feeding frenzy on who 22 year-old Ashley Alexandra Dupre is and why she was working as a prostitute.  There is also controversy over whether or not she should be considered a “victim.”  Should “past abuse” that she references be considered in legitimizing – or at least explaining – her participation in illicit sexual activity?

As I read the article, I came across the following reported quote from Ms. Dupre’s MySpace site – “I love who I am.”  Hmmm…  Really?  You love earning $4000+ a night for having sex with a married man?  Or having sex with whomever?  Or risking AIDS or STD’s by hooking up with multiple sex partners?  Ah, let’s think about this.  Ashley, do you really “love” who you are?  If she does - and I’m not going to try to figure out what she meant by that - I find myself wondering whether the Biblical description of an “immoral woman” in Proverbs 6 & 7 fits Ms. Dupre.

Proverbs 6:23ff (selected verses) – “For these commands are a lamp and this teaching is light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life, keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.  Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes, for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.  Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?  So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished…But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself.”

Proverbs 7:24–27 – “Now then my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say.  Do not let your heart turn to her (prostitute - referenced earlier in the chapter.)ways or stray into her paths.  Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng.  Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.”

According to the Bible an immoral woman seems to love who she is and also seems to have a very specific agenda – “reduces you to a loaf of bread” = bringing down men.  As just happened to Eliot Spitzer.

Perhaps Ashley "loves who she is" because being a call girl has lifted her from poverty. "Money talks." What a sad commentary on the day and age that we live in. Our son is Ashley's age and our daughter a few years behind, so this really hits home. My heart aches for her mother and father, but even more so for her as she has chosen a road that will only lead to destruction. I want to challenge other bloggers to pray for Ashley's salvation. Jesus mingled and ministered among the harlots and adulteresses, but more importantly He died for them.

This has been a shocking situation here in NY. I was completely surprised that the Governor was caught in the same type of illicit behavior he had passionately worked to eliminate from NYC.

I feel horrible for his wife and his three daughters. Now Eliot has to face his children to somehow explain his hypocrisy without compromising the truth.

It's such a terrible example to sons and daughters, to fathers and to the wives.

I wouldn't blame Silda for leaving, she has every right to, nor would I criticize her for staying, if she has forgiven her husband the way God has forgiven her in Christ.

Despite this embarrassment to themselves and to the state of NY, the Spitzer family and those involved in this illegal enterprise, all need to repent and begin to live a new life in Christ.

Sandy, like you, my first thought was that she was my daughter's age. I guess that jumpstarted my compassion for her. Her mother is quoted as saying they were "close".hmmmm This all reminds me that there is a very dark side of this world, and that I need to be in prayer for Ashley and those like her. That picture of her broke my heart.
